Strikes grow as pressure mounts on Belarus president

Employees of state-controlled companies and factories have joined the strike in Belarus as pressure increased on president Alexander Lukashenko to step down.

More employees joined the strike that began on Monday and encompassed several major tractor factories in Minsk, a huge potash factory in Soligorsk, state television and the country’s most prominent theatre.
