German synagogue attacker saw Jews as threat to white race, trial told

A 28-year-old German right-wing extremist has gone on trial for a Yom Kippur attack on a synagogue that is considered one of the worst anti-Semitic assaults in the country’s post-war history, telling the court he saw Jews as a threat to the white race.
Stephan Balliet is alleged to have posted an anti-Semitic essay before carrying out the October 9 attack in the eastern German city of Halle. He broadcast the shooting live on a popular gaming site.
