US sending extra forces as Iraqi militamen storm into US Embassy compound in Baghdad

Dozens of Iraqi Shia militiamen and their supporters have broken into the US Embassy compound in Baghdad, smashing a main door and setting fire to a reception area in protest over deadly US air strikes targeting the Iran-backed militia.

US guards in the compound fired tear gas and palls of smoke rose over the grounds.
