Britain will not pay a £39bn exit bill to Brussels if it does not secure a trade deal, the UK's Brexit Secretary David Davis has said.

The comments appeared to contradict those of Britain's Chancellor Philip Hammond who has said it would be "inconceivable" the UK would fail to honour its international obligations.
