UK Catholic bishops voice 'erosion of respect' for doctors as abortions rise to 'alarming level'

Abortions have risen to an "alarming level", leading Catholics in the UK have said.

In a statement marking the 50th anniversary of the UK's 1967 Abortion Act, Catholic bishops of England, Wales and Scotland said that when the Act became law "few envisaged" the current rate of abortions.
