Catholic Malta to legalise same-sex marriage despite church objection

The predominantly Catholic island nation of Malta is to join much of Western Europe by legalising same-sex marriage.

The Catholic Church had opposed the legislation, which the Labour government promised to introduce as its first law after winning a second term last month and which the main opposition party supports.
