LATEST: School shooting alert in Germany a false alarm

A spokesman for Menden police said a large number of officers had been dispatched to the Hoenne vocational school.

Update 12.45pm:An alert about a possible attack at a school in western Germany that prompted a major police operation was a false alarm, local authorities have said.

Armed officers rushed to the Hoenne vocational school in Menden after receiving an alert before noon.
