Quake off coast of Papua New Guinea triggers tsunami warning

A powerful earthquake off the eastern coast of Papua New Guinea has triggered a tsunami warning.

It struck 61 miles deep with a magnitude of 7.9.

Deeper tremors tend to cause less damage than shallow ones, but several islands in the area have been put on alert.

Experts say hazardous tsunami waves are possible over the next few hours.
