Syrian President Bashar al-Assad considers possibility of forging alliance with Donald Trump

The leader of the Syrian regime says it's possible his country could forge an alliance with Donald Trump's administration.

President Bashar al-Assad says the president elect would be "a natural ally" - if he follows through on promises to destroy ISIS.

In an interview with Portugal's RTP, President Assad said he was adopting a wait and see approach: "For us it is still dubious whether he can do or live up to his promises.

"That is why we are very cautious about judging him especially as he has not been in a political position before."
