3,740 migrants died last month and believed Gambia’s national team goalkeeper among them
The UN refugee agency estimated at the end of last month that at least 3,740 migrants and refugees have died this year trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea.
The stark human cost of this ongoing crisis was also highlighted this week after the Gambia soccer federation said it believed that women’s national team goalkeeper Fatim Jawara may well have died trying to cross from Libya to Europe on a boat.
