Hurricane Matthew US death toll reaches 17

The death toll in the US from Hurricane Matthew has climbed to at least 17, with nearly half of the deaths in North Carolina.

Thousands of people found themselves suddenly trapped in homes and cars when the hurricane dumped torrential rains on the state.
