Blast rocks Belgium's criminology institute

An explosion has rocked Belgium's criminology institute in the capital Brussels.

State broadcaster RTBF said a car forced its way into the site "before exploding a bomb" at about 2am (1am Irish Time) on Monday.

RTBF said no-one was injured but there was significant damage at the site. Police have sealed off the area.

The institute assists and advises Belgium's justice authorities in carrying out their inquiries.

Belgium has been on high alert since a March 22 attack on the Brussels airport and tube network killed 32 people.
