Woman shot after attacking Brussels bus passengers with knife

Belgian police have shot and injured a woman in Brussels after she attacked three people on a bus with a knife.

Brussels prosecutors said in a statement that the woman was shot for refusing to obey police orders.

The incident happened in the Uccle neighbourhood of the Belgian capital.

The statement said that "the victims and the suspect have been taken to hospital for treatment".

Belgian broadcaster VTM quoted an unnamed Brussels prosecutor as saying "we have no indication that this was going to be a terrorist act".

It said that none of the victims were seriously hurt.

Belgium has been on alert since suicide bombings on Brussels' airport and subway killed 32 people on March 22.

That attack was claimed by the so-called 'Islamic State' group.
