Court convicts former policeman of shooting of black shoplifting suspect

A white former police officer has been convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the shooting dead of an unarmed black man accused of shoplifting in Virginia.
Portsmouth officer Stephen Rankin, who was fired as he awaited trial, shot 18-year-old William Chapman in the face and chest outside a Wal-Mart store last year after a security guard accused the teen of shoplifting.
