Armed police scrambled to house in England after firearm reports

Armed police and a helicopter have been scrambled to a residential road in England amid reports someone was seen with a firearm during a dawn raid.

Officers executed a warrant at a property in a pre-planned operation in Careys Wood, Smallfield, Surrey, at about 6am today.

Surrey Police said that after entering the building, a person was seen with a suspected firearm, prompting surrounding roads to be sealed off.

A police helicopter was scrambled. The incident is not terror related. One resident said they had been told by police to stay indoors.

Paramedics were on standby outside the police cordon as armed officers stood by the property.

Locals reported seeing a drone being sent up, armed police nearby and a police helicopter circling overhead.

One resident said the man who lives at the property at the centre of the raid was "well known" in the neighbourhood.

She said: "This village is not what it used to be. We have had cars damaged and tyres slashed.

"Young kids shoot out people's windows for fun and they don't realise it's us that has to pay the damage.

"Enough is enough."
