A peace agreement has been signed to bring an end to a long-running conflict in Colombia which has claimed more than 200,000 lives.

A peace agreement has been signed to bring an end to a long-running conflict in Colombia which has claimed more than 200,000 lives.

The government of Colombia and the Farc rebel group have signed an accord.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs Charlie Flanagan is describing it as "historic" and says Ireland has been a strong supporter of the Colombian peace process.

Former Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore is the EU Special Envoy for the Colombian Peace Process.
