Military offensive stepped up after second Canadian hostage beheaded

The beheading of a second Canadian hostage in the Philippines by ransom-seeking Abu Sayyaf extremists has prompted a major offensive by troops in the south of the country.

However, there there is no sign of an end to the small but brutal insurgency which the Philippines' new president, Rodrigo Duterte, will inherit in about two weeks.
