Earlier: Police say there were no confirmed gunshot victims at the Walmart store in Amarillo amid reports that an armed person was at the scene.

The Amarillo Police Department said officers are now inside the store and that there is "no shooting ongoing at this moment".

Police said earlier that officers responded amid reports of an armed person inside who may have had hostages. Residents are being urged to avoid the area.

The city released a statement saying emergency officials are "on the scene of an active shooter incident" at the store and there was no immediate word of injuries.

Authorities did not say what may have prompted the incident. Some nearby streets were closed as a precaution.
