Afghan migrant dies after being hit by truck in Calais

An Afghan migrant has died after being hit by a truck near the French coastal city of Calais.

Pas-de-Calais region secretary-general Marc Del Grande said the 25-year-old was struck by the vehicle as he and about 50 other migrants were laying branches on the road in a bid to slow traffic.

Migrants gathered in Calais routinely try to climb on board trucks in an effort to sneak into Britain, just across the English Channel.

Mr Del Grande said there would be an investigation.
