Syrian ceasefire is broken 15 minutes after coming into effect

The Syrian ceasefire was reportedly broken just 15 minutes after coming into effect last night.

News agency AP, has said the town of Talbiseh, in Homs, was shelled by government artillery at 10.15pm - but fighting died out soon after.

The United Nations has called on all forces in Syria to honour the terms of the "cessation of hostilities" negotiated by Russia and the United States.

The United States ambassador to the UN Samantha Power admits a lasting truce will be difficult - but insists it's vital: “In a world of horrific crisis, arguably no crisis has done more to threaten international peace and security or has inflicted as much human suffering as the conflict in Syria.”
