Syrian peace talks in doubt

It is unclear whether peace talks aimed at resolving the Syrian conflict will go ahead today.

Talks got underway in Geneva on Friday without opposition leaders - however they then agreed to attend the UN sponsored talks later.

But last night the umbrella group the HNC said it wanted the Assad regime to stop its crimes before negotiations go ahead.

At this stage it is not known if opposition leaders will be present for the talks today or whether they'll go ahead without them.

It had been hoped the negotiations would bring the five year long civil war that has killed 250,000 people - to a close.
