A friend of the San Bernardino shooter has been arrested on terror charges in the US.

24-year-old Enrique Marquez is accused of the unlawful purchase of assault rifles used in the mass shooting and defrauding immigration authorities.

The US Justice Department says Marquez plotted to carry out his own attacks in 2011, including throwing pipe bombs on a California highway and targeting a Community College.

Marquez checked himself into a Los Angeles-area psychiatric facility after the massacre ealier this month in which 14 were killed by Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, a married couple who had been radicalised.

Marquez used to live beside the couple.
