New research reveals new evidence in treating breast cancer
Scientists have said they have got evidence suggesting screening a very early form of breast cancer can prevent more invasive types of the disease.
A team looked at data from more than five million women over four years in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Lead researcher Professor Stephen Duffy has said it shows treating DCIS before cancer cells in milk ducts invade the rest of the breast is worth it: “The immediate implication is that we can be reassured that we are not treating something that isn’t worth treating.
“When we treat DCIS we are treating something that does have a danger progressive to invasive and more serious disease.”
