Macedonia reinforces Greek border to keep migrants out

Macedonia is reinforcing a fence along its southern border with Greece to prevent illegal crossings by refugees.

An army spokesman confirmed the operation is under way but declined to provide any further details.

Greek police say about 800 refugees are stranded on the Greek side in worsening weather after Macedonia blocked access to citizens of countries that are not being fast-tracked for asylum in the European Union.

The movement of citizens from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan continues uninterrupted.
