UK Flights resume from Sharem el Sheikh airport

Egypt's Ambassador to Ireland, Soha Gendi, has condemned the decision to halt Irish airlines operating to and from Sharem el Sheikh airport until further notice.

In a statement she said such a decision should only be made after investigations into the plane crash are concluded.

The move to halt flights follows a plane crash last weekend in which 224 people on board died.

Officials now believe it may have been caused by a terrorist attack.

Meanwhile, UK flights are resuming from the resort amid tightened security, including a ban on carrying hold luggage.

The UK Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin hopes passengers are now reassured.

“Today we will well over 20 flights leaving Sharem el Sheikh. The passengers being brought back without their luggage and their luggage will be repatriated to them in the next few weeks.”
