Last British prisoner released from Guantanamo Bay

The last British prisoner held at Guantanamo Bay has spent his first night back in the UK after almost 14 years.

Shaker Aamer is now expected to seek compensation from the British government for his time in the US jail.

He was held at the detention camp accused of having links to al Qaida, despite never facing trial.

Cori Crider is a US compensation lawyer who thinks people should be compensated for their time in Guantanamo.

“I do believe we ought to compensate people for their time,” Ms Crider said.

“The reality is at this moment no Guantanamo prisoner of any nationality has ever gotten so much as an apology from the United States Government.”
