Volkswagen boss steps down over emissions scandal
Volkswagen boss Martin Winterkorn says he is stepping down over the diesel emissions scandal, but insists he's done nothing wrong.
He says he's shocked by the revelations over the last few days and wants a "fresh start" for the company.
Mr Winterkorn says he's stunned that misconduct on such a scale was possible within the Volkswagen Group.
His claim is backed by Berthold Huber, who sits on VW's executive committee.
"We want to explicitly say that Mr Winterkorn had no knowledge about manipulation of emissions measurements.
"His readiness to take over responsibility for Volkswagen in this difficult situation sets a clear sign and we greatly respect that."
