The deputy leader of the so-called Islamic State militant group has been killed in a US military air strike in Iraq, a spokesman for the Obama administration said.

National Security Council spokesman Ned Price said Fadhil Ahmad al-Hayali were travelling in a vehicle near the northern Iraqi city of Mosul when he was killed on Tuesday.
