Migrants housed on passenger ship in Kos

Dozens of migrants on the Greek island of Kos have boarded a passenger ship which will provide temporary shelter as they seek asylum.

The vessel can provide temporary shelter for up to 2,500 people.

The first migrants were allowed to board the Eleftherios Venizelos early this morning, after a delay of more than a day in preparing the ship.

Migrants watch as a passenger ferry, the Eleftherios Venizelos, arrives at the Greek island of Kos, to provide temporary accommodation for thousands of refugees sleeping rough after crossing clandestinely from Turkey in flimsy boats.

Meanwhile, Eurotunnel has said that the number of migrants trying to get into the terminal near Calais has fallen dramatically.

The UK has invested £7m in improving fencing and drafting in more French police officers around the port in France.
