Six arrests as far-right group and anti-fascists clash in UK

Six people have been arrested after a far-right group and two anti-fascist movements gathered in Liverpool city centre.

National Action cancelled its ā€œWhite Man Marchā€ following two earlier counter-protests by the Anti-Fascist Network and Unite Against Fascism.

Police said there was disruption to traffic and some ā€œminor disorderā€ in the Lime Street area, with one man treated for facial injuries.

Chief Inspector Chris Gibson, of Merseyside Police, said: ā€œWe worked with partners to ensure minimum disruption to businesses and residents and we’d like to thank the public for their patience while these marches were ongoing in the city.

ā€œThe force recognises the right of people to demonstrate peacefully and express their views but the force will not tolerate disorder anti-social behaviour during any demonstrations in Merseyside.ā€

National Action staged a ā€œWhite Man Marchā€ in Newcastle city centre in March which also attracted a counter-demonstration.
