Police investigate as woman is filmed rescuing toddler from hot car
Police in the US are investigating after a two-year-old child was freed from a locked car on a sweltering day.
A woman was filmed rescuing the toddler by banging on the window of the locked car in the car park of a shopping centre in Kansas.
In the video, you can see the window being struck repeatedly with a hard object as shoppers look on.
No charges have yet been filed, but an official said the case was under review by the Johnson County District Attorney's Office.
KCTV reported that Sarah Oropeza, a manager at a Famous Footwear store in Kansas, carried out the rescue before authorities arrived on the scene.
They said that she began hitting the window with a tire iron, and it cracked when another woman came up with a truck hitch that was thrown at the window.
"I was just praying, 'Break the window. She is going to die,'" Oropeza said.
The window eventually broke and the child was freed, police said.
