Rand Paul announces US presidency bid

Senator Rand Paul, a favourite of the conservative tea party movement and frequent antagonist of leaders of his own Republican Party, has declared his candidacy for US president.

Mr Paul, a first-term senator from Kentucky, will kick off his White House campaign with a rally in his home state.
