A woman and two children have been discovered in the back of a refrigerated lorry in the UK after spending two days inside.

Officers were called to the Tesco distribution centre at Avonmouth, Bristol, when the lorry driver heard voices.

The woman and two children, whose ages are unknown, were taken to a police station in the Avon and Somerset area.

Paramedics checked them for injuries but they did not require treatment and were released back to police.

A spokeswoman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called to the Tesco depot at Avonmouth at 8am after the driver of an articulated refrigerated lorry heard voices inside.

"A woman and two children were found. They are believed to be illegal immigrants. It is thought that they had been in the lorry for two days."

A spokeswoman for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said the patients were unharmed.

"We were called just after 9am to a police station in the Avon and Somerset-controlled patch," she said.

"We sent a rapid response car. They (the patients) were all checked over and no one was taken to hospital."
