Pet dog walks two miles to find owner recovering from cancer
A 66-year-old woman receiving treatment for cancer in the US has received an unexpected visit in hospital - from her runaway dog.
Miniature Schnauzer Sissy walked two miles to reach the lobby of the Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, in Iowa. She was caught on surveillance cameras when she walked through the hospital entrance, and continued to sniff her way round the hospital looking for owner Nancy Franck.
Staff cottoned on to who Sissy was and were able to reunite the two.
Sissy was being looked after by relatives when she ran off to find Nancy - who couldn't believe it.
"Sissy was just wiggling and squirming and was just so excited to see me," she said. She asked her family if they had sneaked the dog in to see here and they replied: "No mom, she snuck herself in here."
"It's a delightful story that has really touched our hearts here at the hospital. We know the importance friends and families have on the healing process," Karen Vander Sanden, a spokeswoman for Mercy Medical Center, told USA TODAY Network in a statement.
