Boko Haram launches first deadly attack in Chad

Boko Haram militants have attacked a village inside Chad, their first deadly attack in the country, according to an army spokesman.

The Nigeria-based militants attacked the village of Ngouboua, according to Colonel Azem Bermandoa.

He did not have a death toll for the attack but said the militants had scattered and were being pursued by Chadian soldiers.

The Islamic extremist group has expanded its attacks against neighbouring countries over the past week after Chad, Niger, Cameroon and Benin pledged to send military support to aid the fight against the terror group.

A multinational force to fight Boko Haram is expected to be launched in the coming weeks.

Ngouboua is already home to nearly 3,300 refugees who had fled the Boko Haram-related violence in Nigeria, according to the United Nations.
