Police kill Texas gunman who shot at city centre buildings

Police in Texas have shot dead a man who opened fire at several city centre buildings and might have had explosives.

Assistant Chief Raul Munguia said no one else was hurt in the pre-dawn shootings in Austin.

Authorities received emergency calls about shots fired at buildings in the city centre, and Mr Munguia said bullets also struck the city police headquarters.

He added that an officer who was outside the police HQ saw the suspect, who was wearing some type of vest, and shot him.

The man’s vehicle was parked in an area near the police building, the Mexican consulate and a federal courthouse.

Investigators are trying to determine if he had improvised explosive devices in the vehicle.
