France and the US today stepped up demands for Iran to prove that its nuclear programme is peaceful.

The entreaty to Tehran comes days before US Secretary of State John Kerry is to meet with top diplomats from Iran and the European Union on how to break the years-long deadlock before a November 24 deadline.
