Vessel with radioactive material loses power off Scottish coast

A cargo vessel carrying radioactive material to Antwerp has anchored off Scotland following a fire in one of its funnels.

The flames have been put out, but the vessel, called the Parida, lost power and was drifting for several hours.

Aberdeen coastguard said the ship was under tow and was heading to the Cromarty Firth to secure anchor.

The crew members will then decide whether to attempt to restart the engine.
