US-led airstrikes hit oil sites in Syria

Air strikes have targeted oil installations and other facilities in territory under the control of Islamic State (IS) militants in eastern Syria for a second consecutive day, activists have said.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the attacks overnight and early today are believed to have been carried out by the US-led coalition against the extremist group.

The Observatory said the strikes hit at least two oil-producing areas in Deir el-Zour province. It said air raids also targeted IS’s headquarters in the town of Mayadeen.

Another activist collective, the Local Co-ordination Committees, also reported four strikes on Mayadeen which it said were carried out by the coalition.
