Two tourists dead and 16 injured in Kenyan crash

Two Australian tourists died and 16 others were injured when the vehicle they were in crashed along a highway west of the Kenyan capital Nairobi.

The tour truck was ferrying 21 tourists to Tanzania when one of its rear tyres burst causing it to overturn on Sunday, said Paul Kerich, a senior police officer in Narok.

He said 18 of the injured have been brought to Nairobi for treatment. The tourists included British, German, Swiss and US nationals, Mr Kerich added.

Kenya is struggling to reduce the number of people dying from road accidents. The government says around 3,000 people lose their lives annually to road accidents and over 10,000 are injured or maimed.
