A small eruption has occurred north of Iceland's Bardarbunga volcano after nearly two weeks of earthquakes in the region.

However, authorities say no volcanic ash has been detected.

The Icelandic Met Office has raised the warning code for aviation over the site to red, the highest level it can be.
