Girl, 3, dies after security door falls on her
A spokeswoman for Rita’s Italian Ice says their “hearts and prayers” go out to the family of a three-year-old girl killed when a security door fell on her at a Philadelphia shop.
Police say a metal security door detached and fell on the child at a Rita’s Water Ice store in north Philadelphia.
The accident happened in the city’s Brewerytown section, and the girl was taken to a hospital and died shortly after arrival.
Rita’s spokeswoman Linda Duke says she cannot comment further due to the investigation.
WPVI-TV reports that the child was there with her mother, and bystanders rushed to her aid while others gave CPR.
Witnesses tell the station a fundraiser was happening at the time.
Officials are investigating.
