In his first video interview, his father Peter told no one in the family knew Elliot was violent.
Speaking on Walters' 20/20 on ABC, he said: "Every night I think of those young men and young women who died and were injured and terrorised. And my son did that."
He says his life is like a "reverse nightmare situation," where instead of waking up from a bad dream, he wakes up into a horrible reality.
He also tells Walters that he never thought Elliot “could hurt a flea. I mean, this is the most unbelievable thing...What I don’t get is we didn’t see this coming at all.”

Peter Rodger worked as a director on The Hunger Games,.
