Eight dead as blast hits Nigerian shopping centre

At least eight people have been killed in an explosion which rocked a shopping centre in the Nigerian capital Abuja.

The explosion at the Emab Plaza is the latest in a series of violent attacks suspected to be by Islamic extremists.

Nigerian security forces appear incapable of curtailing the near-daily attacks by extremists in the northeast.

Two separate explosions in April killed some 120 people in Abuja. Both were claimed by Boko Haram Islamic extremists who threatened further attacks.

A bomb at a medical college in northern Kano killed at least eight people on Monday.

Boko Haram attracted international condemnation for the mass abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls in April, and is blamed for this week’s abductions of another 90 people.
