Western Europe’s tallest building was evacuated today as firefighters investigated reports of smoke.
London Fire Brigade said there was no evidence of a fire in the Shard, near London Bridge.
Scores of workers left the 1,004ft building following the evacuation.
A fire brigade spokesman said: "Firefighters are investigating reports of smoke in the basement of the Shard. There is no suggestion at this stage that there is a fire.
“As a precaution the building is being evacuated. No injuries have been reported.”
He said the presence of seven fire engines and around 50 firefighters was usual for that type of building.
Scotland Yard said no arrests had been made and inquiries on the cause of fire were ongoing.
London Ambulance Service was also called out but said there were no patients.
