Putin orders troops back from drill as warning shots fired in Crimea

President Vladimir Putin ordered thousands of Russian troops participating in military exercises near Ukraine’s border to return to their base today as US Secretary of State John Kerry was on his way to Kiev.

The order came as tensions in the strategic Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea remain high and troops loyal to Moscow fired warning shots at protesting Ukrainian soldiers.
