Two dead and 50 injured in Bangkok protests

One civilian has been killed and 50 other people injured in clashes between Thai police and anti-government protesters in Bangkok, emergency medical officials have said.

The medical service later said another man had died, but did not have further details.

Multiple gunshots were heard at the site near Government House in a historic section of the capital, but it was not clear who was firing.

Erawan emergency medical services said one man was killed and 50 others wounded in the incident.

The violence flared after police started trying to clear out demonstrators who have been camping out at various spots around the city in an attempt to unseat Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.
