World powers slam Syria veto threat
Western powers have defied Russia’s veto threat and pushed forward with a United Nations resolution threatening sanctions against Syria, as Barack Obama attacked Moscow’s opposition to a measure to help millions in desperate need of humanitarian aid.
The resolution, which expresses the UN Security Council’s intention to impose sanctions if the Syrian government does not allow unrestricted aid deliveries to civilians caught in the fighting, was circulated among the 15 council members.
