Man appears in English court for murder of pensioner on Christmas Day

A 22-year-old man has been remanded in custody in England after appearing in court charged with the murder of an elderly man in the early hours of Christmas Day.

The body of Bernard James Smith, known locally as Jim, was discovered at the junction of Shakespeare Road and Wordsworth Avenue on the Highfields estate in Stafford at around 12.50am on Wednesday.
