Minimum age for buying cigarettes raised to 21 in New York

Smokers younger than 21 in the biggest city in the United States will soon be barred from buying cigarettes.

The New York City Council voted overwhelmingly yesterday to raise the tobacco-purchasing age to higher than all but a few other places in the US.
